Though there are many reasons behind insomnia. but depression and stress are the root cause and Your lifestyle and your priorities also play a major role.
Here I'm going to take a holistic approach to heal sleeplessness. Taking into account all the culprits in action.
Food:
When you eat unhealthy food, microorganisms in your gut get in contact with your brain. Sending them signals that the food is not suitable for your metabolic system, as a result of which, the whole-body system gets triggered, eventually altering your sleep patterns.
So, Eat Healthily. 🍲
What makes us sleep?
Our Pineal gland is responsible to release a sleep molecule called melatonin. But if melatonin production is somehow decreased or disrupted you will suffer insomnia.
Excessive light sources right before bedtime also cause melatonin secretion to drop. Melatonin works best in the presence of darkness.
Stress:
Your stress levels also drop the secretion of melatonin causing sleeplessness. Depression and anxiety play a basic role in triggering sleeplessness.
How the presence of FEAR in your body creates insomnia:
The presence of Fear in your heart or mind also halts melatonin production creating insomnia.
Whether it’s a real threat or just a perceived threat in your mind, both create anxiety.
So you can say that anxiety is actually rooted in fear.
An example of real fear is; a lion running after you, since your life is in danger you need to run to save your life.
On the other hand, Perceived fear is something that hasn’t happened yet but our brain reminds us of the possibility of it.
Examples could be; the probability of losing a loved one, the possibility of losing a job, fear of the future, fear of not earning enough, and so on.
When we think or see something to be terrifying our brain prepares our body for fight and flight mode to deal with the suspected threat. Adrenal and cortisol rush in our body is there to prepare us to fight out the situation. It’s a normal body response to fear. But the kind of hormonal imbalance fight and flight mode creates inside a body is catastrophic if persists for longer periods, due to which; our body's normal functions get disrupted. it disturbs the cycle of sleep molecules and creates insomnia.
Whether it's perceived fear or a real one in both cases, your stress hormones start rushing non-stop and they are so busy saving you from possible attacks or upcoming dangers that your body is not acting normal so as a result of all this, you suffer insomnia.
· Action plan to stop the Cycle of insomnia:
Your Stressors, anxieties, and Depression are all begging you for lifestyle changes and Alterations in your belief system. It’s your belief system that makes things happen. What you believe, you achieve. These things need a paradigm shift.
Start working on your judgments and Fears. Replace them with better things and better choices. Judgments and Fear keep you in a low vibration loop. It doesn’t let you come out of that cycle. What you feed your thoughts, will feed your body. Bring a change in thought patterns. Rewire your brain and redefine your fears.
For millennials, Disconnecting from the world for 20 minutes each day will create a huge difference. You need to try it once in your lifetime. Shut your phone, TV, news channels, Facebook, and an Instagram feed. These things create disturbing neural pathways in your brain that create more anxiety. And increase your “disconnectivity” time gradually. You can thank me later. It works wonders.
Start bringing a routine of Meditation and Deep breathing. Deep breathing creates a state of calmness and Focus. It trains your brain to create a center of NOW. Learn to Sit with yourself alone without anything else around. Observe your inner-self. Go deep it will take you on a whole new self-awareness journey.
Meditation done with the zikr of Allah creates immense relief in your heart and soul. As a starter, you can have the help of Youtube zikr videos. It connects you to the core and lightens your mind body and soul profoundly. Listening to the Quran Recitation raises your frequency and your brain cells heal quicker. As soon as Quranic recitation reaches your body through the ears whole physiology changes because Quran is high frequency. But there is a condition if you want to take this deep advantage of recitation. You have to be fully immersed in the recitation while listening. Your eyes should be closed and you have to pay full attention to the words said whether you get the words or not. Listening while doing other chores simultaneously like texting, talking, and walking will not bring healing. Listening to Quran with deep indulgence will not only bring clarity in your sense but it also creates a center of now if done correctly.
As I said above, start sitting with yourself. Create self-awareness. Write about your own self and indulge in your own nature and insights. Do you know Google knows you better than you know yourself?
Practice letting goes of the past and letting loose unwanted thought patterns. You can get help to work through your past traumas and wounds through subconscious mind reprogramming also known as NLP.
Forgive others and forget. Though I know you can't forget, actually none of us can forget but at least we can pretend to forget to ourselves. Because it's for our benefit.
Remove anger from the body. Leave grudges behind. Work through everyday grudge and anger issues. Cut the relationship with negative feelings. Leave the victimization state behind. It will increase your melatonin release and your sleep patterns will get better. The more your mind is in peace your body will be in peace, resulting in better sleep.
